About Us

Adapt celebrated 35 years of providing services in 2006.  We are a mission-driven private non-profit organization, focusing on providing quality treatment and prevention services to business, families and individuals. Our ability to effectively provide services stems from our community partnerships.  In our experience, especially in rural communities, a provider must make a significant commitment to a community if services are to be well received, and have continuity.

We are the primary provider of alcohol/drug treatment services in Douglas and Coos  counties, and one of three primary providers in Josephine County.  We contract with all three of these counties, and in addition contract directly with the State of Oregon.  We are the exclusive sub-capitated provider for two physician-owned Oregon Health Plan Contractors, DCIPA, and DOCS.  In these roles we have worked to integrate services not only with mental health but also primary care.  We offer a full continuum of services from prevention to residential treatment, for both adults and adolescents.  We have a mental health license in all three counties, and also are the only organization in all three counties designated as the preferred provider for Regence/Blue Cross.  In December 2006 we opened SouthRiver Medical Clinic, a Family Practice allowing us to more fully integrate chemical dependency and mental health treatment with primary care.

Treatment and prevention services are our primary, but not only, focus.  For the past 6 years we have been actively involved in conducting clinical research with the National Institute of Drug Abuse’ Clinical Trials Network.  We contract directly with Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU) as our primary research partner.  In 2003 we were one of five programs chosen nationally to complete a clinical trial, Motivational Interviewing, under the direction of Yale University.  Also in 2003 we provided, with OHSU, an invitation-only training on pioneering the use of Buprenorphine for physicians and treatment providers.  In March 2007 we began randomizing addicted chronic pain patients into a new clinical trial testing Suboxone and counseling as a means of reducing opiod dependency.   This clinical trial is being conducted in partnership with Harvard University and OHSU.

Many years of hard work have paid off in the last several years.  In 1999 we were honored statewide by our peers for rural advocacy efforts on behalf of chemical dependency services.  In 2002 we received the Governor’s “Award of Excellence” for “outstanding performance in treating adolescents and their families”.  For the past five years we were chosen by Oregon Business Magazine as one of the “Top 100 Business” to work for in Oregon.  The latter we are particularly pleased with, as it is based on how our 140 employees evaluate us.

Our Clinical Managers include a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.  Our management team has unusual longevity.  The CEO has been with Adapt for 27 years, the Residential Servicesl Director for 17 years, the Director of Operations/Human Resources for 20 years, and the MIS Director for 16 years.  Further information is available at our website at www.adaptoregon.org.
